Like many engineers, I was frustrated. I felt like at certain point in my career that I had so much more to offer.
For years, I thrived as a structural engineer, designing the very foundations of the world around me. But something inside me was calling for more—a deeper impact beyond blueprints and calculations. As I built physical structures, I realized my true passion was in building people—helping them find their strength, confidence, and authenticity. My transition from engineering to thought leadership wasn’t just a career shift; it was a transformation fueled by my own journey of self-discovery, resilience, and embracing the unconventional. A trip down memory lane
1989
The Spark: My First Taste of a Team
My elementary teacher told my mom; this girl is playing basketball at recess and she is really good. My first taste of organized basketball at the YMCA. I got obsessed and my whole revolved around basketball.
2000
Balancing a Student-Athlete Lifestyle
I received a NCAA Division I basketball scholarship that ultimately gave me access to get a Bachelor of Science degree in civil/structural engineering. Playing basketball taught me so much about resiliency and discipline on and off the court.
2006
The Big Apple:
A New York Lifestyle
Started my structural engineering career in NYC renovating schools within all five boroughs. Moreover, I learned about the value of presenting yourself in a professional manner. I worked part-time at Banana Republic mens store on 5th Avenue and learned all about styling suits for men of all shapes.
2010
Professional Engineer: That Hard Hat Life
After four long years of working as an engineer, I took and passed my professional engineering license exam. It was a HUGE milestone and solidified my existence in the industry. I grew up playing Lego; but this was FOR REAL!
2013
A New Kind of Modeling
In the world of design structure, we model using computer aided softwares. I decided because of my sense of personal style, I would try my hand at fashion modeling. I had never been in front of camera in this way and it was a new journey of finding more layers of myself. Some unbeknownst to me.
2015
The Alvarado Experience was BORN
My visibility as a modeling opened up so many doors to model for brands and get recognized by publications. But the most surprising, was the people that started to follow me from across the world.
WHY?
Because I was making myself visible as a masculine presenting female and people appreciated this form of advocacy.

Thought Leadership: A Form of Business Development
While was modeling part time and helping fashion brands; my professional career elevated and I because a known Business Development leader with the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry. Speaking became so natural and it was easy for share my stories as a way to explore client realationships, culture, and team success.
